What Is Paint Correction?

Paint correction is the mechanical leveling of a clear coat (clear coat is an unpigmented paint, clear) to a point where all the paint is free of swirl marks and light scratches.  Swirl marks are essentially a “V” cut/slice in the paint where light bounces around in the valley of the scratch and exits.  This is how you see the swirl marks. If the paint was flat, with no valley, there would be nowhere for the light to bounce.

Is Paint Correction Expensive?

This is a varying answer due the labor intensity of paint correction and the level of clarity the client is wanting to achieve. A typical mid-size car with minor surface defects can be completed in as little as 2 hours. However, if the car has more significant surface defects and the client is wanting a near perfect finish, this could take as much as 6 - 10 hours!

We believe in giving the client full control in their paint correction needs and ensure their expectations are met with clear communication.

Do I Need Paint Correction Before Ceramic Coating?

Paint correction or paint polishing is not a required step prior to having a ceramic coating installed and we leave this decision up to our clients. However, most cars’ paint is flawed, even brand new cars. How is a new cars paint flawed from the factory you may ask? Sometimes factory paint can get damaged during transport or maybe overspray from the factory. More likely, the dealership used improper washing techniques and marred the paint before delivery. Most vehicles will see a major improvement with a single stage polish and this is our recommendation to all clients wanting a ceramic coating.
